For Kids and Young Adults
By becoming a club member at Peninsula Boxing & Fitness, you will have access to a facility where first and foremost you can have lots of fun. Boxing, whether for competitive or recreational purposes, is exciting and will give you plenty of exercise, as well as help you lose weight, build strength, and develop your athletic ability. Our facility also represents for you an outlet to go to and forget about the pressures of life. We offer a safe and supportive environment where you can positively interact with others in a cooperative manner, meeting new people, as well as socializing with those whom you may already know. Please understand that even though our program is competitive in nature, sparring or competing is optional and not required for program participation. In other words, as a club member you don’t have to feel compelled to spar or compete athletically. You can just come down, hit the heavy bags, learn a variety of skills, and do a lot of fun drills and exercises while getting in the best shape of your life. Any and all activities performed at the gym are done at your own pace, so that you don’t injure yourself or someone else. Not everyone learns at the same speed so we are there to make sure that you do not get beyond yourself or have a negative experience. We want you to feel comfortable and not feel like you are being pushed. If you like what you are doing at our gym you will push yourself.
Our boxing program can benefit you in a variety of ways and help you confront and overcome issues that may be a concern to you such as being shy, lacking in confidence or self esteem, carrying excess weight, having acne or a poor complexion, or demonstrating anti social or aggressive behavior. Whether you are bored, frequently alone at home, or you experience a lack of parental supervision or guidance, we offer involvement in constructive activities that are exciting and will peak your interest. If there is tension or conflict in your household that negatively affects you, our program serves as a temporary refuge where you can relieve that tension, step back and analyze your situation, and get help if necessary so as to make your situation more manageable. The boxing workout will give you a sense of self worth and will help to combat your feelings of depression or despair. In boxing as in life you can run but you can’t hide. Through boxing you will develop the strength and character to deal with whatever you are confronted with so you can handle your daily affairs in a confident, intelligent, and effective way. If for you getting bullied at school is an issue, just the knowledge by others that you now work out as a boxer is usually a deterrent to those who may choose to bother you. By no means are we suggesting that you use your skills on the street. You can box in the gym. We want you to avoid confrontation by being aware of where you are at, or what company you put yourself in with. We want you to make good choices in life as there is enough conflict to go around already.
As you read this message or you look through the rest of this web site you may hear repeatedly that boxing builds strength, confidence, and character. Understand that even though these are just words in front of you, when these words become part of your personality, they will help you tremendously to not only get through life, but in many instances excel. As a young person you are at a critical stage whether you realize it or not, and you must start to make the right choices in life now so you don’t end up taking a path that will be self destructive or have a negative impact on your future. You always hear adults saying that if only I could have done this or that when I was young I wouldn’t be in the situation I am in now. Well your time is now and we are here to help you every step of the way in preparation for your journey ahead.
In helping to steer you in a positive direction we don’t just attempt to benefit you through the boxing program but we help expose you to other avenues. We have tutors on site to help you with school work, as well as guidance counselors to talk with you about issues that may be affecting you. We bring in motivational speakers as well as professionals from all walks of life to share with you their stories about their careers and how they became successful, or how they avoided some of the troubles or situations similar to what you may be facing. By inviting community members in to speak with you and present other points of view we hope that this helps to reinforce the ideals that we are trying to impress upon you through our program, and that is you can do whatever you want to do, or be whatever you want to be if you put in the time and effort. We also hope that through exposure to other people and other ways of life, that you will start to comprehend that the work you do in the gym to become proficient or successful, is the same work you do outside the gym to be successful or productive. Dedication, commitment, motivation, these are the attributes that are key to becoming good at anything that you decide to do.
If you have read this far then don’t forget that you don’t have to spar or be a competitor in order to be a member of our club. That choice is yours. By being a member of our club you will be part of a team whether you compete or not. We can all join together on weekends as competitive team members, supporters, and fans, traveling to different locations throughout the state for amateur competitions such as local smokers, golden gloves tournaments, regional tournaments, and other exciting and memorable events. Some athletes will excel to higher levels and end up going to national level competitions. Becoming a United States Olympic team member is a possibility for those committed and dedicated enough to attempt that road. And any success that our team members have will be your success as well because we are all in this together. Whether you participate in events as an athlete or attend as a supporter, just remember that you will always meet other boxers, coaches, and fans along the way, perhaps establishing meaningful relationships that will last a lifetime.
